IGNITE Student Ministry

Grades 6th – 12th

HCC provides many weekly and monthly opportunities with each student in mind.
Sunday Mornings we gather in the Community Life Center prior to10:30am. Most Sundays students will be dismissed from the Worship Celebration for a time to together in the Martin Center. These large gatherings focus on worship, prayer and teachings.

Thursday nights @ 7:00pm Small groups provide a safe place for relational discipleship. In these groups each student has a chance to grow relationally, serve and have fun. We meet in small groups on the HCC Campus. We meet weekly through May on Thursday nights.

Throughout the year student’s experiences are enhanced with going to conferences, doing acts of kindness, retreats, service projects, going to amusement parks, missions opportunities, etc.

More about HCC Student Ministry Small Groups:

What we believe:

Here at HCC we believe every student is an individual each at a different place in his or her life and walk with Jesus. We believe in treating students like young adults rather than older adolescents. We have structured our Student Small Groups around this core belief. Student Small Groups are centered on what you see and hear in the Worship Celebration and teaching during youth. We believe that life change can take place in Small Groups, and the effect can be far-reaching in your spheres of influence. The most important thing that Jesus told us to do is to love the Lord our God…. And to love our neighbor as ourselves.

What Are Small Groups All About?

Initiating, developing and sustaining being followers of Christ through community. Students learn and grow through relationships with God and each other. Small groups are for students wanting to grow closer to God. God loves you more than you can imagine. He wants good things for your life, better than we can even dream! To grow it will cost you something; you need to know the truth, spend time and gain experience with other followers. We believe that the application of the Bible to our every day life is why we meet together and challenge each other and is what produces that change.
(Acts 2:42-47)

What are other students saying about small groups?

“It’s a place to connect with others.”
“It’s an opportunity to go deeper with friends and in Jesus.”
“It’s a chance to share in good and bad stuff.”

What makes a small group worth being a part of?

“It is a safe place where I can grow closer to people.”
“I find personal support and helps me to not feel alone.”
“I can trust others and they can trust me.”
“We include as many people as we can so nobody feels excluded.”

How We Do It:

Our Student Small Groups are divided by age and by gender. We want you to be able to grow with other students in similar places in life. Therefore, we have Middle School Girl's Groups, High School Girl's Groups, Middle School Guy's Groups, and High School Guy's Groups. Our Groups meet on the HCC campus in different rooms.

What do I do if I don’t feel my small group is right for me?

As we grow and offer more groups in more areas there will be a greater opportunity for you. Being in a group is essential to feeling connected to our church. Therefore, we ask you to be as flexible as you can about your group.

When do the small groups meet?

Small Groups meet January through May on Thursday nights at 7:00pm.  Over the summer we focus on outreach and missions and then in the fall we resume meeting September through December.

What Happens on a typical Small Group Night?

6:30pm - Group leaders arrive for prayer and to prepare
7:00pm - Arrive Hang Out in Small Groups
7:15pm - Begin the Small Group time
8:15pm - Start wrap up and prayer
8:30pm - Gather for an activity, announcements, recap, music

Who leads small groups?

Each small group is led by a team of students and adults who are passionate about Jesus and passionate about you lead each small group.

What to do to get the most out of small group:

Commit to being there and on time: Each small group begins at 7:00pm so if you can come a few minutes earlier that would be great. If you have a schedule conflict, coming late is fine, but try to get here as close to or before 7:00pm as possible.

Bring your Bible: The Bible is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us. Learning truth about God without allowing that truth to become a part of your life is a crime against God. He wants to make a difference IN and THROUGH your life. You will change your world when you live out His Word and obey what you know is right.

Being focused: Since we will be talking about God and spiritual matters, do your best to remain focused. Everyone should be mentally involved and participate in the discussions. Not everyone feels like talking in front of others.

Because relationships forged in small groups are vital to being fully devoted to following Christ, it is our hope that each student will find a way and makes it a priority to participate in this community.
