Communion
Communion
We read in Mark 14:13-16, that on the day before He was to be crucified, Jesus asked two of His followers to go and prepare for a feast. Now I don't know about you, but if I knew I would die the following day, I don't think I'd be concerned about preparing a feast for my closest friends. Yet Jesus placed so much importance on sharing this feast with His friends.
He desired a time of intimacy and final instructions. He took the bread and the wine commonly found on tables all over the world and elevated them to a new meaning. From then on, whenever His followers ate bread and drank wine, they were to take the time to remember Him.
The Communion Team "sets the table" for this commemorative feast each Sunday. It is an honor to serve our Church body in this way. We use this time to examine the condition of our heart; to give thanks for everything the Lord has done for us, and to affirm that we are the Body of Christ.
As we eat the bread and drink the wine or juice, we acknowledge that only Jesus can satisfy our hunger and our thirst. It is humbling to think that we join believers worldwide in remembering the sacrifice of Jesus through the sharing of the Lord's feast.
